NO.82 地缘绿化

Where couldn't you see green plants? In city, from the crack between reinforced concrete breaks through dogged grass; in countryside, along roadside in the wind blow wheat fields; over sea, along waves drift the algae… Cities, countryside, land, sea, factories, jungles, there are green plants everywhere, while they are quite varied depending on where they are located. This issue of magazine is themed as "Geographical Greening". We select three excellent architectural projects to show the uniqueness of greening depending on local conditions. The A$207m "Karratha Health Campus" thrives in the harsh climate of Australia's Pilbara region, even can help protect this vital community asset during extreme weather events. Located in city, "Tokyo Midtown Hibiya" creates a lush green landscape outside the reinforced concrete building with both ground and high-altitude greening. "Common Garden" is a residential building with romantic and warm atmosphere and an exposed facade of arcades and gardens. In the "Planning" column of this issue, we share the neo-futuristic "Les Jardins d'Etretat" in Normandy. With long history and incorporating multiple elements both in the past and at the moment, Les Jardins d'Etretat has successfully realized the combination of modern landscape art and historical value at one place, and thus won the European Garden Award 2019.

NO.81 河道景观

Water, an essential element in humans' life, is a significant part of urban planning. Rivers, lakes and seas, with their diverse volume and site location, contribute to the uniqueness of each city. Back to the nature, viewing the rivers who foster the natives, one can feel the tranquility, profundity, surging and long history from the rivers, inspired to open their heart, expand their horizon and make their souls peaceful. This issue of magazine is themed as "River-Viewing Facility". We select three excellent architectural projects to show the multiple possibilities of river-viewing facilities. The massive undertaking "Bridges and Pumping Stations of Noordwaard" provides river-viewing facilities with the understated beauty of the Dutch pastoral landscape, while making great contributions to the national flood prevention program called "Room for the River Project". The first phase of "The Tide" project is 1km long, with its elevated and at-grade walkway as well as elevated garden islands of diverse features, both offering varied river-viewing horizon and activating spaces above and below. The riverside "View Terrace" in Park of Senses in Valmiera is designed elaborately to contain pedestrian path, view terrace, rest area, screen and road for emergency vehicles in limited space and keep itself environmental friendly and artistic. In the "Planning" column of this issue, we share the new "Nong Fab LNG Terminal" of Thailand's largest energy production company. Named after "Nong Fab", a Thai ecological expression, the terminal manifests its attribution—an industrial facility with high standard energy and environmental sustainability.
